UNDOK app is the dedicated app to control Ruark Audio Mrx, Ruark Audio R5, Ruark Audio R7 with a smartphone. It is a third party app designed by Frontier Smart Technologies.

Run UNDOK app to detect Wi-Fi connection. Ruark Audio R5 will need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Once all the necessary connections are established, choose a desired source from the SOURCE tab. In this case, Ruark Audio R5's Bluetooth was connected to playback Youtube or music files from smartphone.

If the selected source is TIDAL then go to BROWSE tab to select songs.

Select MY MUSIC to go your TIDAL playlist. There is also a volume slider at the bottom. For first time hotel guest the UNDOK app is intuitive and easy to learn. Switching from TIDAL to BLUETOOTH is effortless

If there are other Ruark Audio with multi room feature speaker connected to same Wi-Fi network it will be visible on UNDOK app. In this case a Ruark Audio MRx is connected to the same Wi-Fi network and can run simultaneously or separately.

Ruark Audio R5 also includes a matching remote which mirrors exactly the main controller. Using superior radio communication, the remote does not need to be aimed during operation and sited on a table or sitting in your hand the remote is an ergonomic delight. Also available for iOS and Android devices is our app called UNDOK. This allows full control of Ruark Audio R5 and is ideal for managing multi-room set-up and control.

After running in for about 100 hours I finally sit back and give it a good listen. I started off with Lydia Kakabadse Concertato - Cello & Double Bass: II. Andante legato. From the beginning of the track, cello is played in melancholy mood and my attention is instantly focus on the Ruark Audio R5 breathing out layers of bass notes. I repeated the first 20 seconds with different bass settings. The higher the subwoofer setting is the more textures the Ruark Audio R5 churns out. At this point my room was vibrating a little too. The midrange delivers plenty of warm details while still good clarity. It is very clear to me that the strength of Ruark Audio R5 is in the midrange, the warmness of its midrange. It is enjoyable to listen to how the midrange and lower frequencies working along well. I get the same effect listening to Kirstin Von Der Goltz – Vivaldi: Cello Concertos RV 404 415 and 531. It is warm and mellow and still with clarity. The manufacturer’s extended experience add with rich walnut veneer materials used to construct the Ruark Audio R5 is their secret recipe to achieve natural acoustic resonance. “So long … it was soooooooo long ago but I stiilll got the blues for you” boy oh boy the Ruark Audio R5 hit some the right spots here. At the beginning of the track the Ruark Audio R5 presented the electric guitar in a very warm note rather too warm for my liking. I would prefer it to be more revealing. So I increased the treble in the settings (using UNDOK) and immediately a layer has been unveiled. The electric guitar hit the high I was expecting admittedly not as crisp as I would like it but still good. Crooner Gary Moore’s voice filled the room easily with airiness. I did not want to move a muscle aside from tapping my feet. I was in the zone. Gary Moore’s voice was right in the sweet spot of the midrange. The warm sounding signature of Ruark Audio R5 is in tune with Gary Moore’s bluesmen hard rock fusion voice. It is compose and well presented. It is soulful and musical. The built in subwoofer is added advantage making the soundstage wide enough and coherent and also added a layer of depth. It is easy to forget that it is not a stereo setup with tube amplifier. Even with high treble setting there isn’t a time I felt any harshness or discomfort to my ears. It did not sound noisy and messy here. Good presentation. It is simply enjoyable. For hotel guests who just simply enjoy staying inside the hotel room, having the Ruark Audio R5 will be a treat. Song – Still got the blues by Gary Moore. Relaxing. That is the first impression when I listen to Ariana Grande’s Stuck with U. Ruark Audio R5 presented Ariana Grande’s gentle and sometimes sharp voice with subtleness and with clarity. There were instances I could not make up the lyrics and that are mainly this particular track. Justin Bierber is sounding digital with extended pitch but that is modern Pop – R&B music. You can clearly hear the autotune nevertheless still pleasant. There is a combination of the high from Ariana and mid from Justin and low frequencies from bass. Playing Diana Krall’s The Look Of Love simply put a nodding smile on my face. At the beginning of the track I am greeted with a slight melancholic introduction. Here is another area the warm and mellow sound signature of the Ruark Audio R5 is right at home. The piano and the orchestra in the background are well pace. Diana Krall’s lushfull, laid back voice and with occasional hissing are all over the track and I especially like the whispers whereby you can hear some and cannot hear some. The Ruark Audio R5’s midrange presented it with subtleness and yet with enough clarity and did not miss out on any details. Sipping my hot chocolate while listening to this while raining (its rainy season now) really sets me in the mood. I simply love it. Diana Krall’s voice being forward captures most of my attention and nothing else in the background really stands out therefore putting me in a rather relaxing state. When I first saw the size of the Ruark MR1 MK2 I had some reservations, it reminded me of the Logitech Z333. I was instantly reminded of how Audio Engine A2+ sounded like and I was not impressed. It’s not just the look, it also plays a vital role in the sound reproduction department. After running in for about 100 hours, it is time to review these compact bookshelf speakers. I played George Michael’s Roxanne (live) and was greeted by solid mid bass 8 seconds after the track started and it filled the room. I raised my eye brows and look at the Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 to see if it accidentally connected to a subwoofer. Nope, no subwoofer connected. It is airy and lively when George Michael said “This song is written many years by Sting, it’s called Roxanne”. George Michael’s voice while sounded clear, it is a little flat and lack in dynamic here. I think this is possibly because it is a live version recording, nevertheless it is still enjoyable. It is a different story when I play Jesus to a child by George Michael though. It is clear to me that the strength of Ruark Audio Mr1 Mk2 is also in the midrange. Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 presentation of George’s voice is full-bodied, warm, mellow, gentle, and smooth and I can hear his hissing decaying. It is not often I get a chance to mention all these qualities for a pair of compact Bluetooth bookshelves speakers below RM2500. It is such a treat to my ears as I sit in the dark close my eyes and sway my upper body gently. The rainy weather is contributing to my listening experience too. There is a clear separation and it is satisfying. Crooner Gary Moore’s voice filled the room easily with airiness. I did not want to move a muscle aside from tapping my feet. I was in the zone. Gary Moore’s voice was right in the sweet spot of the midrange. To my ears, and to my liking the Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 presented Gary Moore’s voice a little forward compared to the Ruark Audio R5. The warm sounding signature of Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 really brings out Gary Moore’s bluesmen hard rock fusion voice. It is compose and well presented. It is soulful and musical. The 150 watt Q Acoustics 3060S subwoofer is added advantage making the soundstage wide enough and coherent and also added a layer of depth. As expected this 2.1 setup is better than the standalone Ruark Audio R5, having said all that, the R5 is no slough by any mean. Both models presented the electric guitar note with enough crisp (MR1 MK2 has a slight edge) and I don’t feel any harshness or discomfort to my ears. There is no fuzziness here. It did not sound noisy and messy here. Good presentation. It is simply enjoyable. For hotel guests who just simply enjoy staying inside the hotel room, having the Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 will be a treat. For this review I will overuse certain words. In my years of casual listening to music, I have many favourites. Then every now and then I go into another universe where Hi-fi speakers are designed to express the most of music. Talented Australian singer Sarah Àlainn may not be a big name but her rendition of A Time For Us is a heavenly one. This song has a few elements that I like. Solo singing, female voice, violin, sad love theme. Right from the start of the track, Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 presents Sarah’s voice with authority while sounding gentle. There is a familiar airiness and clarity here. The mellowness of Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 and Sarah Àlainn’s heavenly voice with the solo violin is in the sweet spot of the midrange. This song is making my listening experience evoking. From minute 1.50 I find myself breathing a little harder as it gets more intense. Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 delivers Sarah’s voice high enough to a satisfying level and at times making me wanting higher. It is not ear piercing as I am playing the track louder at this point. I look at the remaining time of the track because I don’t want it to end soon. I am amaze that the Ruark Audio MR1 MK2 is pulling it off without much effort. Sarah Àlainn’s rendition of A Time For Us is making me envision a modern lady in search for an old fashion Jack Dawson -Rose Hails of Titanic kind of love.
