You’re looking at DALI distributor from Australia who participated in the KLIAV 2023 held at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur. They too flew into Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to experience our local audio show together with others from Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Korea. We would like to have a special mention on the Australian team because of their passion and dedication to better audio performance. On the 1st day of KLIAV 2023, while the media and general crowd were very impressed by the DALI KORE and NAD synergy however, we were uncomfortable with the sound distortions due to plenty of mirrors on the ceiling. We had the audio system for 3 weeks in prior to the event and that gave us plenty of time to study and learned the DALI KORE sound characteristics so we know there are no such distortions. DALI KORE is effortless

Unveiling on 19 May 2022

DALI brought its new €80,000 Kore flagship loudspeaker to Munich and is the first to feature the Danish manufacturer's wood fibre cone in a dedicated mid-range driver - here, a 7-inch unit - positioned near the signature hybrid tweeter. The midrange and bass drivers use DALI's second-gen SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) combined with its Balanced Drive concept to create Balanced Drive SMC, which uses two voice coils to reduce potential signal loss and distortion. Meanwhile, a 35mm dome combined with a ribbon in an EVO-K system covers the high-end frequencies. The curved, one-piece wood laminate cabinets feature a striking Ammara Ebony veneer with two identical 72-litre internal chambers, one for each woofer, terminating in a pair of bass reflex ports at the rear. Furthermore, die-cast aluminium and composite materials give the drivers a rigid platform, so we are told. Finally, each speaker has a 34kg cement-based plinth adding to the overall 110kg of mass on each side. Impressive stuff and an outstanding result. For all those years that DALI participated in audio shows, they weren’t the highlight, that was until 2022. In this photo is Lars Worre, CEO of DALI for over 30 years now, a veteran in high end audio officiated the unveiling of DALI KORE at the High End Munich 2022. He presented to the medias the 3 components that forms the new hybrid tweeter (mid section) known as Evo-K Hybrid Tweeter. He oversaw this design too. This new flagship speaker became an instant highlight of the audio show and caught many international media’s attention, plenty of positive raving reviews too. Mark Sparrow: DALI has had a lot of history and milestones in its 40 years, but for anyone who doesn’t know the brand, how would you describe the DALI way of doing business?
Lars Worre: DALI is a Danish specialist manufacturer of high-quality speakers. Elaborating a bit, we build products that must, in any category, exceed the listener’s expectations. We achieve and raise these expectations through long-lasting ownership in the consumer’s home by gradually revealing new and unexplored sides of their favorite music. In the best case, we try to uncover hidden sound ‘easter eggs’ in recordings. Something which can be present more often than people realize… until they hear it.”
Sparrow: Denmark is an audio manufacturing hotspot. How does such a relatively small country produce such an impressive selection of brands, innovation and talent?
Worre: Much historical writing is post-rational, making a virtue out of necessity. Like the definition of a tradition, it may have been going on for so long that nobody can quite remember why it began. For Denmark and audio, the case is different. We have a historical foundation in the origins of loudspeaker development.
Electromagnetism, the basis for all the speaker transducers we use, was first discovered by the Danish physicist H.C. Oersted. Standing on his shoulders is the storage of speech and music on a magnetic medium, which was first made available by Danish engineer Valdemar Poulsen in his wire recorder, commonly known as The Telegraphone.
Finally, the invention of the electrodynamic driver – as we still know it – was initially patented by Danish engineer Peter L Jensen. The US sometimes likes to take credit for this, but sorry, America, Jensen was a Dane. On top of the historical anchors, we Danes always had the cold, dark winters in the North. This enabled us to have the time to invent. We are interested in music and those long winter evenings allowed people to experiment with sound, electronics and loudspeakers.

Every time we listen to the DALI Epicon 8 we are amazed by it, every single time. There is this sense of satisfaction from the highs to mid-range and the bass. The mid range is neutral warm and truly capable of revealing layers and layers of textures while the highs are so finely tuned and never too bright with details. The bass is full and tight and with plenty of heft enveloping the entire room. When all these combined, you are presented with life like natural sound with coherence and rhythmics, never once will it sound noisy and messy. The sound stage produced an illusion of a much larger speaker, like a 7ft tall one. It is almost like you are in the music. Here is a brief review of DALI speakers. Comparing to the Epicon 8, the DALI Epicon 6 is no slouch. We will not hesitate to recommend Epicon 6 if the space is no bigger than 14ft x 16ft. With 2 units of 6.5” woofers, combined with hybrid tweeter system (the same found in Epicon 8) DALI Epicon 6 has plenty to offer. It has the same rhythmic and coherence of the bigger 8, the same revealing nature mid range and inside a room no larger than 14ft x 16ft you won’t miss Epicon 8. We are always being asked what is the DALI Epicon 6 like, so here is a short review. We enjoy demonstrating the DALI Epicon 6 driven by Lyngdorf SDA-2400 power amplifier (RM11,990) with Tsai Ching’s LOVER’S Tears. Why? Because it always takes everyone inside the room including us through a whirlwind of emotions and also where the hybrid tweeter shines! We dim the lights and start the track. At the starting few seconds of the track the Epicon 6 presented some very airy piano keys, still that is within expectation of such speaker. However, the moment Tsai Chin’s low voice is heard, an impression of the sound quality is immediately formed and at the back of your head, you set an expectation involuntarily and this is just 20 seconds in. This particular version of LOVER’S TEAR is a very emotion intensified one where the singer deliberately attenuates her voice mimicking ASMR effects and then just to fill the room back with her voice carrying plenty of texture, all in matter of seconds. The hybrid tweeter is proving to be highly calibre keeping pace with the singer’s eerily low to very low and sudden leap to high and to very high pitch and not once sounding bright or harsh, quite the opposite actually, it’s highly refined and revealing. The DALI Epicon 6’s wide dispersion and airiness is just impressive. The sound stage is tack focus solid. The life like sound quality easily morphs you into the music as you breath along every breath the singer is taking (ASMR effects). We are inclined to say it is almost like Tsai Chin is in front of us but we would say it is surreal enough. 3 minutes in and by now the smooth and highly refined sound, life like sound quality is etched into your mind. A specially developed oversized 29 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter for the Oberon 9. In the midst of installing a 5.1.2 home theater system consisting of DALI Phantom H-80 R as 3 for left, center and right speakers. The H-80 R is a rectangular in-wall speaker with 8-inch woofer are highly suitable for home cinema. We are also using DALI Phantom E-60 ceiling speakers for Atmos effects. Our client wanted the speaker for the audio system to be minimalist, they do not want any Soundbar, wall mount or floor standing or any protruding speakers. They wanted it as minimal as possible and yet luxurious. We have the solution, and that of a high level of clarity at low volume level too. We are showing off a wide range of our custom install DALI PHANTOM speakers this week at ISE 2024. On the far left are our entry level Phantom E- series, E-50, E-60, E60 S & E-80. Next up is our DALI phantom K-series with K-60 LP being the low profile model which is based on the K-60 and K-80 being the 8 inch ceiling speaker.
